Blog 34

Well I realized as I was going to sleep at 12:45 last night that I didn't do this blog. I think it was a good move to save it for today, because I actually got a good amount of sleep. Anyway, for my Commonplace thing I'm still trying to decided exactly what I want to do. I'm either going to go with something very serious or something very not serious. The first idea I thought of was that the government, or anyone in positions of power, can rarely truly understand the common man, let alone the lower class. Most people in government come from wealthy backgrounds and haven't had to really fight for anything in their lives. This is the same for me. I come from an upper-middle class white family. I haven't been subject to discrimination and I don't know what its like to not know when you're next going to get to eat. Imagine what its like for the government. Most politicians grew up in private schools, had wealthy parents, and went to nice, Ivy-league schools. They don't exactly understand the perils of the lower class because they have never experienced it themselves.
My other idea for the Commonplace paper was to write about why Star Trek got cancelled. Its not exactly timely or relevant, so I probably won't do it. I just thought, "I could write about all these serious issues, or I could try to make English class fun!" As of now it looks like I'll be going with the not fun option.
