Blog 13: Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog

I watched Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-Long blog for my last episode selection. I have seen it before, and I must say it is one of my favorite videos on the Internet. However, before now I was just watching it for entertainment, but now that I look at it through the lens of what the theme is and what the show is trying to address, I feel that I can appreciate the show even more. As funny as it is, it does address some pretty big issues.
Dr. Horrible is a man who simply wants to join the Evil League of Evil and become world known as one of the most evil super-villains in the world. However, we can tell from the show that this motivation to do evil things does not come from a malicious personality, but Dr. Horrible just wants to be accepted and appreciate by people. Lots of people in real life will change who they are to fit in with a crowd that they want to fit in with.
We also see the motif that everyone ultimately wants the same sort of things out of life. Both Dr. Horrible and his nemesis Captain Hammer want more than anything else to have their mutual love interest fall in love with each one of them. We see that even though Captain Hammer fights for justice and Dr. Horrible fights to promote evil, they are both humans, and human nature is to want relationships. Dr. Horrible ends up killing the love interest and Captain Hammer and gets accepted into the Evil League of Evil, but he realized that he went too far in changing who he was to be happy with the new crowd he fit in with.

Matthew
