Dearest Future English 110 Students,
You are all in for such a glorious treat. Obviously, by treat, I mean writing an excruciating 250 words of blog everyday for an entire quarter! The best part is that not only do you get to force yourself to write an uninteresting blog about what you did that day, but you get the grand opportunity to read and comment on 25 other people's similarly uninteresting blogs. Sure, once in a blue moon someone will write a captivating blog and the comments will flow, but I have written countless comments that say something like "Oh yeah! That's so interesting", when nothing could be further from the truth.
You might be saying to yourself, "Wow! These blogs sound like such a treat, but I want MORE assignments that make me want to give up on academics for the rest of eternity!" Well look no further, you've got the Analytical Research Paper to look forward to! This one is great for all you people who have ever watched a science fiction show and thought, "I would really like to write a drawn-out, seven page paper on themes in this episode! If only I got to incorporate a few scientific articles into my analysis!"
As you can tell, I have had a great time in this class, and I look forward to spreading the news about the funnest class on campus!
Sincerely,
Matthew Brew

Science Fiction. I had been exposed to some science fiction before this class, mainly in the show Dr. Who. That is a very different type of show than the ones we have been watching. I guess what I think about science fiction is that I don't really like it, but I understand why people do. Its cool how in-depth people can get when learning about the shows, but thats just not for me. There is enough going on in most of those series to be able to write seven or eight page papers, which is certainly appealing to some people. It is good when the science fiction shows don't get caught up in the technicalities of the show, but they just let the characters interact as people would in real life. I was not really a fan of any of the shows that I watched at the beginning of the quarter, and I am certainly not going to continue watching. I watched a lot of Star Trek and a lot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I am glad to say that that will be the last I watch of those shows. Its been a good run, and my eyes have been opened as to why people enjoy watching the shows, but its just not my cup of tea. I have nothing against science fiction fans in anyway. The type of entertainment I like doesn't match up with the entertainment provided by shows like Firefly and Battlestar Galactica. I think this quarter coming to a close will mark the end of my sci-fi watching days, at least for a little while.

I forgot to do yesterday's blog until just now, so I'm about to do two in a row. Tomorrow is going to be the last day of the blogs. Its been a long quarter, and I must say I am super excited to not have to write 250 words every day. I'm also really excited for my classes next quarter, but I'm thinking that I might have to switch them up. Right now I have Astronomy 161, Russian 250, and a class at my high school. I might go on to Math 152 after this quarter though. I looked at the Honors curriculum requirements and it looks like that even for a BA I need to go through Math 152. I'm actually really good at math, but I hate it with a burning passion. I don't like how concrete it is, and that there is only one right answer to any problem. I like fields where different people have different answers, and many things can be learned from the way people respond to the same question. I'm struggling to decide what I want to major in when I go to Ohio State, but I just want to make sure it is something I love rather than something that will make a lot of money, but if both of those happen I won't be complaining. Maybe I'll take an engineering class and I'll totally love it or something like that, but as of now I'm kind of sold out for the humanities. Only time will tell what I do with my life, but rest assured that it won't involve blogging.

Blog 72
How crazy is it that we've done 72 blogs over the course of this quarter. When I started off I felt like I MIGHT have been able to consistently blog for about 30 days or so, but it really came a lot easier than I expected. The only thing is that I imagine blogs are only fun to read when people are blogging because they want to say something. We are only blogging because we're doing it for a grade. Then we're forced to make 100 comments on people's blogs, when they don't even care what we have to say. Its just a bunch of people forcing themselves to write stuff about themselves that might not even be true. Anyway, thats just me expressing my feelings about the blog.
I was just over at a friend's house sitting around playing catchphrase for about three hours. It really didn't seem like that long, but when I checked my clock it turned out to be. People came and went as we played, and some fell asleep in the middle of their turns to explain the clues, but it was a really great time. I love just going somewhere and chilling, especially when we don't feel like we need to go out and do something. That usually only happens when we seem to have enough people to keep ourselves entertained by simple things like playing hours of Catchphrase.

I did not like Caprica today. I just felt like the episode wasn't going anywhere the whole time we were watching. It was pretty cool to see the beginning of the Cylons but beyond that there wasn't much to it. I didn't really see any story progression as the episode went on. We found out that they worshipped the singular God, and it became pretty obvious that the guy killed himself as a martyr. Then the Dad discovered the virtual world thing and it just kind of seemed to come to a standstill. Maybe if we had kept watching we would have seen everything fall into place together, but for me there was no foreseeable way for them to do that. I feel like any reconciliation between the father who was wearing black gloves and his son was just going to be a forced, cheesy scene. They would probably get in some sort of fight and, even though they almost died, they came out on top together. I think that the girl who died on the train's friend was going to die at some point while the girl's dad is nearby trying to figure out the problem with the digitally projected girl. But what do I know? Maybe my ideas are better than what really happened and I should look into a career as a writer for TV. Or maybe I've just seen enough movies and shows to know what to expect, in which case I could write for a really boring show.

I've been thinking of places I'd like to go around the world recently, and I've come up with a few priority options. First of all I would love to go to Rome. I have been to several cities in Italy, but never to what I think is the main one to go to. So much history is in that city, and I think it is one of the essential spots for World Travelers. I went to Venice, Italy when I was in elementary school and that was very nice, but I'd like to go back without parents and at my age. Another place I'd like to go to Athens, in Greece. I've been to some obscure island off the coast of Greece, but I have never been to Athens. I am particularly interested in Athens because of the Classical Myth class I have been taking. It would be cool to just do a Greek survey of all the big cities from myth. Another place I would like to go is Ireland. I went to Ireland for ten days over the summer, but I think it would be great to go back with my outdoorsy friends and hike some of the famous trails, maybe go up to Northern Ireland to see Giant's Causeway or something. It is really beautiful in Ireland, and I think it would make a great spot for a Honeymoon or something. Although that makes me think about the Bahamas. I've never gone on any Caribbean cruises or anything like that, but from what I hear they sound incredible. Let me know what you guys think of world travel.

Forgot to do this last night. After English class I went straight over to my friends house and then home. I was going to do it, but I have been feeling really sick so I fell asleep as soon as I got home. I woke up to go to church at 6:15 and then didn't get home from there until 9:30, at which point I was going to do this blog but then fell asleep again. I seriously hate being sick. It makes all of my favorite things suck. Things like playing music are no fun when I'm not feeling healthy. I have a sore throat, stuffed up nose, and a killer headache all at once. I've been taking plenty of Sudafed and Advil, but I'm still not feeling very good. The side of my bed is littered with cough drop wrappers, used tissues, and decongestant spray. Even with this arsenal to draw upon, nothing seems to be phasing my sickness. It was a bad idea to go to class yesterday, but I thought it was important to go because of the group memo that we worked on. Today I just stayed home and was lazy all day. I slept through both of my classes, and I do feel a lot better, but still not good by any means. However, I did get a chance to work on my final paper for my Classics class, which I would have otherwise been doing in the early hours of the morning. So while being sick is absolutely horrid, something kind of good came out of it.
